LCSI is the summer enrichment component of the Lewis & Clark Institute. (Sometimes that is a bit confusing. LCSI is part of LCI). LCSI has been offering fun and enriching learning experiences to children since 1983. For three weeks (one session) or six weeks (two sessions) children can pursue interests in the arts, sciences, information technology, playing and working hard. Eager young chemists, budding painters, space scientists, or future chefs experiment with exciting ideas. Some children challenge themselves to grow in classes like stained glass. Others may learn Irish dancing, paint a portrait, or film a performance in iMovie--all in the same day. Still others may take geranium cuttings, do some research about Golden Retrievers and Labs, or build wind and solar panels to create electricity. Supported by thoughtful and creative teachers, LCSI campers venture into new realms, discovering with delight the bright, promising young people they are becoming.
LCSI kids (from third grade through eighth grade) attend three, hour-and-a-half classes each day between 9:30 and 3:00. (There is also a very exciting class called “Lewis & Clark Explorers”, on the top, right side of this page, for children who are presently in grades k-2). LCSI students in grades three through eight may cook their way around the world, decide they want to learn how to make movies, experiment with the chemistry of fire and ice, or study the next-generation space shuttle. Others may take some geranium cuttings, design a web page, or film a bald eagle at the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary. (LCI already has an agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to run an ecology class at Riverlands).
